The Midheaven (medium coeli, the middle of the sky) is where the meridian crosses the ecliptic: the highest point the ecliptic reached at your birth. It marks the cusp of the tenth house in most systems.
It describes the public arc of a life: the work you become known for, what authority looks like to you, the direction the chart is climbing toward. Like the Ascendant it depends entirely on birth time, and it is left out rather than guessed when that time is unknown.
